God says there is only one way for Him to hear our prayers and that is only through His Son Jesus. To pray to any one else goes against the word of God.

It's kind of like asking a friend for help, know what I mean? It's not that we worship Mary or a saint, it's just that we know they have experienced things in their lives that we need help with. God is the one who hears all prayers and grants prayers if it is His will.

It is never required of Catholics to send their prayers through Mary. In fact, the most important prayers of the Catholic church are directed towards God himself in the Holy Mass. Recourse to Mary is just an option, and a beautiful one at that. We should realize though that our salvation came from Mary. Would you take it against God why He has to ask for Mary's consent before He sent His Son to the world?

Hmmmm your right, I was raised catholic ( not anymore) and we were always taught to pray to sains. Though just because you prayed to them, it didn't mean you were idolizing them, i guess it was like getting more of personalized help? Like Gods helpers in specific subjects and problems. We ask angels for help, it deosn't mean were idolizing them.

I am Muslim and this is what we are taught everyday, that there is no benefit in praying to anyone besides God not even Muhammad or Jesus because if you ask them for anything they cannot provide it for you but God can.

We pray to Mary and the Saints for their intercession to God on our behalf, for help in whatever need we may have - they have been enlightened and blessed by God too to help us through their intercession. Mother Mary for example watched as Her Son Jesus was brutally beaten and then hung like a criminal to die on the cross in agony for 3 hours...she saw and experienced the torture done to Her Son....Can you imagine Her suffering - a Mother's suffering of watching Her Son slowly die in agony while people mocked Him and all but one disciple was there for Him?.....those people who have tragedies in their lives such as the loss of loved ones can look to Mary and ask her intercession for help for God's graces, consolation and comfort.
They are closest to God in Heaven, therefore it is only for your benefit. It does not mean you cannot pray to God, in fact You should, that's the whole purpose - they are there to help you, they are not looking for your worship, but rather to help you come to a deeper closer relationship with God and by this I mean through Jesus. They work for God to bring souls to Him. Just because they are in Heaven, it doesn't mean they do nothing. God's heart and mind is always on us, His people on Earth. He wants all souls saved and so they are instruments of God to help all souls come to Him. They are instrumental in carrying out God's plan of the salvation of mankind. Jesus paid the ultimate price without which none of this would be possible, but there are so many people in the world who have yet to come to God, yet to receive Jesus...They are therefore there to help mankind come to God and have a close relationship with God through receiving Jesus and receiving the price paid by Jesus on the cross for their sins. We are nobody to say I will not pray to them. We are asking for their intercession. That is the work God has given them because loves us. God has put them there to help us come closer to Him. If we say we will not pray to them, we are only denying ourselves their intercession to God for us, again only through Jesus.
Of course it's only through Jesus, Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life and nobody comes to the Father except through Jesus. First and foremost, one must repent and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior....but Mother Mary is the Mother of Jesus and she can help us to come closet to Her Son.
