Fundamentalists challenge the Catholic practice of asking saints and angels to pray for us. But the Bible directs us to invoke those in heaven and ask them to pray with us.
Thus in Psalm 103, we pray, "Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, hearkening to the voice of his word! Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will!" (Ps. 103:20-21). And in Psalm 148 we pray, "Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the heights! Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his host!" (Ps. 148:1-2)
Not only do those in heaven pray with us, they also pray for us. In Revelation, John sees that "the twenty-four elders [the leaders of the people of God in heaven] fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints" (Rev. 5:8). Thus the saints in heaven offer to God the prayers of the saints on earth.
Angels do the same thing: "[An] angel came and stood at the altar [in heaven] with a golden censer; and he was given much incense to mingle with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar before the throne; and the smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God" (Rev. 8:3-4). Jesus himself warned us not to mess with small children because their guardian angels have guaranteed intercessory access to the Father: "See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven." (Matt. 18:10).
Because he is the only God-man, Jesus is the only Mediator between man and God (1 Tim. 2:5), but this in no way means we cannot or should not ask our fellow Christians to pray with us and for us (1 Tim. 2:1-4), including those Christians in heaven, who have already had their sanctification completed, for "[t]he prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects" (Jas. 5:16). AMDG is well versed and I'd go with his answer, I will not walk over his answers.
I do have a comment though Catholics did at one time have a bible in which the commandment, thou shalt not worship any graven images, was not in there and thou shall not covet was broke into 2 parts.
Why are you praying to Mary...are you also peaying to any other mother who is in heaven? The catholic Church bible is a book full of lies, because the catholic church is a christian sect since the conscilium of niceae 325 AD, they have taken out more than 50 % of the teachings of Jesus to gain power over the people.... Whats the truth about Praying to Mary? - Page 3:: Page 3: Do you see anything terribly wrong with this picture? I do. This is the Catholic Mary. Look at her hands. Do you see the scars of crucifixion? Thats bl http://www.sodahead.com/religion/whats-the-truth-about-praying-toy/question-795679/?page=3HOME |
It doesn't refer to it in the Bible used by Catholics or others. However, sainthood is a long established Catholic tradition. Catholics pray to saints to intercede on their behalf and that includes the Virgin Mary. The Catholic Encyclopedia claims that veneration of the Virgin Mary started at the time of the Apostles.
Because catholics worship mother Mary. And other religions do not acknowledge her exsistence. Catholics worship God jesus and mary. by worship i mean they have ther statues in the church. What ever statues are in the church is usually who they worship. hopes this helps.
According to the Bible, Mary found favor with God and was chosen to carry the baby Jesus. Most likely, she was a very good person and very devoted to God. But though she was chosen for this privelege, she was still human. According to the Bible, only God has the power to answer prayers, and He wants His children to bring their prayers to His ears because He loves them.
When Jesus comes again (the second coming), the previous believers (those already dead) will be raised to meet Jesus first. Therefore, according to the Bible, they are not already in heaven and praying to them does nothing. See I Thessalonians 4:16-17. Report Abuse
Okay, peace to all of you people, do not get angry at me for this answer. The Catholic Bible and the other Bibles are actually a little similar. But then, there is lots of differences too. The Catholic Bible has more books than the other Bibles. Some of these are human written, which make them false because these are not told by God like the other books in the Bible. Praying to Mary is actually quite useless because she is just a human. It is like praying to your great great grandfather. Praying to God is different, God can do anything and He promises to listen to you no matter what. Mary didn't promise anything like that. It's like talking on the telephone with a deaf person. Mary is just a good and devoted girl, perhaps an inspiration to us all but not a goddess.
None of the above
in the original version and all of the other versions of the true Holy bible it is said "no one comes to the father but by me" meaning Christ
fyi.. mary is mentioned MORE in the Q'ran than she is in the Bible... we're not so far apart , "why cant we just all get along?"
