Why do I feel wrong when I pray to Jesus, Mary or the saints?
Published by: wktd 2010-03-19

  • I was born and raised Catholic, and since childhood I have never been comfortable praying to Jesus or Mary or the saints, in fact it feels evil. I have since kept a relationship with GOD and GOD alone, but now that my Priest, my Church and My parents know this is how I feel, they beleive I am under attack form SATAN. I think that they sound crazy. Everything I have experienced praying to GOD only has been good, but when I pray to Jesus or anybody else it feels wrong!

  • Then don't do it. Follow your heart, not anyone else's beliefs. If you don't feel right about praying to the ones you mentioned, then don't. If push comes to shove, then you may have to leave your church to seek another. Good luck!

  • People pray to Mary and the Saints? I don't think you are supposed to do that.

  • Your relationship with God is personal and how you conduct that relationship is between you and God. Don't allow others to come between that personal relationship.

  • I am about the understanding....(being a devout CHRISTIAN and not of catholic denomination) that:

We are to pray TO our Father GOD~
In the name of JESUS; with the prompting and all around HELP of the "helper" aka (you know what Im saying....:) THE HOLY SPIRIT.

We DO ALL THINGS "In Jesus' Name" unto our LORD GOD!

Praying TO Mary or any of the apostles(disciples really)......IS
VERY UNSCRIPTURAL. I DO not believe though that PRAYING "TO" JESUS is a bad thing either. God Bless you, and perhaps do an INTENSIVE BIBLE STUDY REGARDING THE PRACTICES OF YOUR CATHOLICISM.....many, I am very sorry to say....are VERY UNSCRIPTURAL, and some are flat out; point-blank BLASPHEMOUS.....

Start with "Call NO MAN ON EARTH your "FATHER""
Priests are born into sin just as we are.....Praying to a priest for the forgiveness of sin is LIKE-JUST LIKE~IF YOU SINCERELY THINK ABOUT IT, its as though we make Christ's crucifixion of NONE EFFECT, a non issue, null and void! (U get it).

    IF YOU HAVE HONESTLY BELIEVED ON THE SON OF GOD FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS;
YOU SIMPLY CANNOT BE "DEMONIZED" in any way. BECAuSE YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN BOUGHT BY THE MAGNIFICENT BLOOD OF JESUS!!!! woot-woot!!!~ :) xoxoxo
This is not to say that demonic forces cannot tempt you, antagonize, and bother you. THIS IS WHY IT IS CRUCIALTO BE IN PRAYER DAILY, and REALLY KNOW THE WORD OF GOD FOR YOURSELF.....do not depend on others, some priest, teaching tapes or cd's or other Christian books....read the King James HOLY BIBLE and take notes as you go along; and be in a spirit of prayer as you read, and let the Holy Spirit lead you into all understanding!!!!

    GOD BLESS YOU HONEY!
I pray all the BEST for you,
In the UNITY of our FAITH IN THE RISEN LORD,

  • What you believe is your business. If you care about what your parents think, just don't bring it up. It's between you and God.

  • Math shows us that praying is evil

  • It's psychosomatic. My advice is to move somewhere with more rational people.
  • STICKY DOORKNOBS: As a matter of fact, Catholics ARE Christians::
Mar 13, 2005 So on occasion, we ask saints to help us by praying for us to God. But again, it makes a sinner feel better when he or she can talk about what Therefore, Catholics ask Mary to pray for us to her son Jesus. Do non-Catholics where saint medals? I don't see anything wrong with wearing it.

  • i go to church every saturday and i feel the same thing... it is all the bad spirits coming out of you

  • Pray in the way that feels right to you. When you talk with Mary, or the other Saints, you are not praying TO them, merely asking them to pray or intercede for you, that is different. When you Pray to Jesus, you are praying to God, remember, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

    God Bless you.

  • Being raised Catholic doesn't mean anything. It is a label. You are saved by faith, not by a label.

If you ready the Bible, you will see that Jesus is God the Son. Mary is another sinful human being like the rest of us. You SHOULD feel uncomfortable praying to her. Jesus is God, so you should NOT feel uncormfortable praying to him.

Trying finding a church that will teach you the bible. Check out the link below.

  • You are supposed to pray to God directly, not to the saints or the virgin. By Jesus we can reach God so you must pray him too. By the virgin or the saints you cannot reach God direcly. Jesus is the only one who can guide us to God. !!! ^_^

  • Jesus is God. Don't you believe in the Trinity? If you feel uncomfortable praying to Mary or the Saints then don't do it. But how can you feel evil if you pray to Jesus?

  • Don't base your faith on feelings. You are going through a dark night of the soul. This is a normal experience for people who are seeking God on a deeper level. Mary and the saints are there to help us like a friend helps us by listening and encouraging us.
If you are more comfortable praying directly to God, GREAT!
Your friendship with God will help you in ways you will discover.
Some people like praying to God as Jesus because they can picture Jesus and not God. This is good for them. Continue to find your own way and don't worry. You are in good company.

  • I don't know alot about Catholicism, however, I do know what the Bible tells me..

The Bible says that Jesus is the image of the invisible God. And that he who has seen Jesus has seen the Father.

It also goes on to say that we baptize in the NAME of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If you read more in the new testament, you'll find out the name is Jesus Christ.

Yes, Jesus was a man, and is our savior. But He is also the Father and Holy Spirit. Don't feel wrong praying to Jesus because the God you pray to is the very Son (or body) himself!

  • The king of the gods Zeus is trying to show you're praying to false Idols.

  • As a Baptist, I don't understand why you pray to Mary or the saints...Jesus died for our sins, and you pray through him to God. The main focus is on God (the trinity), not humans. I'd suggest trying a protestant church. Lutherans are pretty close to Catholics (church service-wise), I believe.
  • Jesus -is-Lord.com: Jesus Christ is the ONLY Way to God::
Pray, read your Bible, do good, and fall in love with Jesus. Many Catholics possess and pray to little statue idols that they call "saints" when the .. Even unbelievers can feel the danger--more so than professed Christians. Wicked vicar replaces Father, Son and Holy Ghost with Jesus, Mary, and Joseph

  • When the disciples ask teach us to pray Jesus gave us what became known as the Lords prayer.
There are those that want to call it a formula for prayer, and that's fine. The point is we were taught to pray to the Father.
Not to Jesus, Mary or any of the Saints.
    Only to the Father.

  • well i dont think anyone should pray to mary! but alot of people do so if you have a relationship with GOD just ask him to show you the way thats all and if he want you to just have a relationship with him then that is what you will have

  • Pray to God, the Almighty, through His son, Jesus. The Bible says no one can come to the Father unless they go through the son. Christ is the way to the Father! Christ will make your petitions known to God.

  • do what ur heart feels is right ... i think ur on the right track .. just Know that Jesus an God are one and the same being just different aspects ... saints are not to be worshiped or prayed to imo ... thats kinda like rubbing a lamp and hoping a genie answers ur prayers ..

  • The Bible says Jesus is our only mediator; pray only to Him.

  • Jesus said you can ask the Father in his name - so what is wrong with praying to God? Jesus is God.

BUT - Jesus is the only mediator between us and God the Father AND we are warned not to make images of things in heaven or on earth and pray to them.

  • Think about it historically for a moment. If God created Man, then a direct connection exists from creator to created, and most would say this is the connection they feel within their internal experience, this closeness and connection to God.

If this is true, then why would you need the Church? You already can reflect on your connection to your creator and derive inspiration, happiness, a sense of awe, and all the good stuff from within. The Catholic Church has a history of manipulating information to maintain control (Galileo, Joan of Arc, countless unnameables, etc.) and what better way to maintain control then to take a historically verifiable person who was preaching God's Word, and use him as a leash.

Basically, I am not saying the messages of Bible or Jesus are wrong exactly, simply that it has been used (probably justified to themselves somehow) by those who manipulated it to their own ends. Several hundred years of this (remember when you could buy your sins away for silver?) and you have an established tool of control. Thus you have a wedge between you and God. If God had wanted everyone to read and follow the Bible to the best of our choice, we would be born with it in hand.

Intent is what matters. If your intent is honored worship of God, who could possibly say you are not genuine and being lead by the devil?

  • It feels wrong because invoking supernatural beings for the sake of obtaining political, economical, social or personal favor through the manipulations of outside forces beyond your control is still magic.

Prayer is Sorcery under a different brand name and as such you are going to burn for it.

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha!

  • I'm not Catholic, I'm actually Pentacostal, but I've always thought it was kind of silly to pray to Mary or any of the Saints; because when they were actually alive, they were just humans, like you and I. However, Jesusand God are one in the same, so in a way your always praying to him. So stick to praying to God (and Jesus!) Because only He can really help you will what you need, and only He really knows you.
    God Bless!

  • Well praying to Mary and the saints is wrong. But Jesus is God. I was also confused for many years about praying. Do I pray to God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit? I was told a few things by a few people to clear it up. You pray for the Holy Spirit to help guide you in this life. You pray to Jesus to have Him plead with the Father to forgive them. And you pray to God about things you need. Well I dont quite get that different denominations and all. I think if you pray to God that is all that matters. I start all my prayers out Heavenly Father who are in Heaven. Or dear Lord. I dont think it matters how you address God just that you do with reverance. Repent and be baptized. Im not here to give you a lesson but another thing you may want to look at is baptism. Baptism is an immersion the Catholic church doesnt do that. I would abandon the Catholic church and look for a Bible believing church. If you read the Bible you will see many practices in the Catholic church which God disagrees with. Amen and Peace out...............

  • Well, you are not supposed to pray to Mary or the saints. I am curious that you have difficulty praying to Christ. He is God.

  • To best one to talk to this about is God. He will let you know and lead you in the right direction. I too speak more to God but acknowledge Jesus as his son and my redeemer. But God is the one who sent him.

  • I think you realize that we don't need a person to know God through, we can know God on our own. It's not evil to go through someone, but it is a block in your own spiritual development.
My advice to you is to not get caught up in Catholicism at all, but to seek guidence from God instead of people.

  • Wow...I'm moved by your sincereness and your courage.

What you feel is nothing wrong at all. Actually, you are sensing what all ready is the truth.

Who did Jesus pray to ?
His God, Creator and Father. Never did he pray to himself or taught his followers to pray to him, his mother Mary or any so called saints.

Please, pick up your bible and read these scriptures:

    Matthew 6:9 - 'You must pray...Our Father'
John 11:41 - "Now Jesus raised his eyes heavenward and said: "Father..."

Acts 12:5 - "...prayer to God for him [Peter in prison] was being carried on intensely by the congregation."

Php 4:6 - "..by prayer..let your petitions be made known to God."

So a prayer should be directed TO God, THROUGH Jesus name (John 14:6,14).
For Gods personal name, please see Ps 83:18.

I hope these scriptures can help you to see that you allready are on the right track to the truth about - prayer. :o)

  • I used to pray to the saints to. You shouldnâ ™t do that. You must pray to GOD in the Name of JESUS!
