Survey of authority
•hundreds of geese showed signs of damaged nervous system
•autopsy: haemorrhages and necrosis in pancreas, fibrinousairsacculitis, enteritis, haemorrhages in heart

Results
•from a large scale breeding geese farm 59 blood samples were examined by HI test, 25 sample were H5 positive
•2x60 swabs were PCR negative!
•examination was repeated from the 4 different stock of the farm (4x10 blood, cloacaland tracheal swab),
•in 1 affected stock were 9 blood samples positive
•All swabs were PCR negative

What does 2 X 60 samples were PCR negative mean? What are the implications of this? Is the PCR test no longer well targeted to the virus?
