  • OS: WinXP Pro SP2 Build 2600(XP FW disabled)

There was no problem with XP SP1, it just happened after formatting my HD and installing XP Pro SP2.

I tried to figure it out and it only crashes after entering my license key and rebooting(no crashes with the trial version).
The problem persist even after re-installing it,it will raise only after entering the license key.

  • If I recall correctly, somebody else had a similar problem with a key that was resolved by getting a new key. You can try getting a new key by using the 1.

  • well, a few steps still applicable because what i have is a recovery CD(SP2 included) wich will install windows with a few softwares and all drivers needed.(i don't have a standard installation CD).

  • Hello Bilal,

Do you have your temp folder moved to a different location or locked so it cannot be accessed?

Check this thread Windows XP SP2 and Outpost (http://outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11186).

  • Well thanks for your help.

I followed the uninstallation steps exactly as described in "Extended Outpost Uninstall/Reinstall Instructions". however some of them were not applicable because i'm starting with a clean installation of WinXP SP2.

After completion of all the steps, i end up with the following exception(Just after entering the license key and rebooting):

The application, outpost.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 12/11/2004 @ 15:31:38.894 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 77C46137 (msvcrt!strdup)

  • I am not familiar with XP, but I seem to remember that SP2 screwed up a lot of things.
I am pretty sure that Outpost must be installed "after" XP2.
Uninstall and reinstall Outpost according to these directions

    chris

  • thanks guys, :)
I repeated "Extended Outpost Uninstall/Reinstall Instructions" up to 5 times, always starting with a fresh installation of winxp sp2 with changing the installation order of the other softwares but always keeping Outpost Firewall the
last installed one and it worked..BUT it was very painfull.

  • Man, that does sound painful. I probably would have given up before you did. Why did you need the extended instructions? If you had a fresh install of SP2 then the registry should have been squeeky brand new clean. Unless you install SP2 over the top - did you?
