Dear members,
it's my pleasure to announce the launch of a new chat system at the Japan Forum! :-)
It is based on Flashchat and requires the installation of Flash 7 Player or higher on your local box. You can enter the chat by clicking the "Chat" link in the top navigation menu. The link is only displayed to members who are logged in.
The chat opens in a new window, you should be automatically logged in. In case there are no other members in the chat J-Bot will entertain you. The chat is customised (the background image showing a nightly view of the Rainbow Bridge as seen from Odaiba). Members currently chatting are displayed on the forum's index page.
Please post any feedback right here. Enjoy!
Hmm...I have not been here for quite some time and just found out about the chat room.
I tried to click into it but it's really really slow for me...oh well I will try again later...
Thanks a whole lot there Thomas and others of the administration !! I caught the new chat this morning, and went in. I had no problems getting in there, and posting. I'll always make it a point to check it out between posts, to see if anyone is there, so I can keep them company. I have noticed recently, however, that after logging in for the first time, then posting, then going back to the forum page, I don't have the 'so and so is in chat' at the bottom of that page. If I then go to the Jref home page, and back to the forum page, it'll be there again. Does this mean that I'm being logged off during the posting process?
Thanks a whole lot for the new chat thing. It is not used that often, as we have noticed, but those who do use it, have fun there. . . and I'm glad to have one back !!!
I thought it was great fun! Good job Thomas. I didn't have any trouble at all logging in... and was interesting using the options...
Usergroup settings are OK. So as long as you have Macromedia Flash installed, it should work. Feedback please! :-)
yes,I test it ~ really improved a lot~!
but can it be more eye protect?^_^
I mean I just get my eyes hurt when watch long~!
and can it have private chat function?
enjoy chat in the chat room~ all.
As mentioned in my first post (http://www.jref.com/forum/showpost.php?p=277907&postcount=1):
:-)
i didnt see it.. and maybe its there..
lol i told you i am blind. i still had trouble seeing it.. but yeah.. lol sorry..
More people need to get into the chat rooms!!!!!!!
You know, there are so many more people in the chatroom than with the other chat!!!!
so im really Happy about that!!... happy that the chat is being used more
Are you logged into the forum when clicking the "Chat" link? Do you still receive the warning that you are banned?
I am sure we can iron that out... :relief:
What's J-bot doing in there? It's bloody annoying and very distracting
That's weird. I have just tested it as admin and registered user in IE, Netscape, Firefox and Opera, and it has always worked. Assuming that you are logged into the forum, you should be able to access without further login.
Have you installed the Macromedia Flash Player? Can be downloaded for free from here (http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash).
is that bad?
No. Why would it be?

you can see who is there by looking at the number in the upper right of the screen... it is definitely no fun to be by yourself...in there
Okay, it is asking for my username, no problem, and a password. I assume it is the password I use to login into Jref. If so it isn't letting me in. Cool wallpaper though
Gonna take a while to learn all the bells & whistles; kinda like getting a brand new sports car, tooo kool !
Frank
J-Bot has just been dismissed... :p
Enjoy the chat!
Just great! :balloon:
now our task to keep it buzy :p
Alright, give me a second...
uuuh... i type Dutch Baka, and my password, but i do not have permision to enter... :(
There should be no need to enter your name and PW in the first place. Assuming that you are logged into the forum, that is...
A definate improvement on the last one. Had a play and liked it. Let's see if it attracts more people to use it
Ok... You know I get the last post in this right?
i didnt see it.. and maybe its there.. but it would be nice to know when someone is in chat.
the number of people in chat room...
lol im there with you sometimes...
Lol. Yeah.
Seems to work now. Other members have managed to enter... :relief:
More people need to get into the chat rooms!!!!!!!
still nothing, tried with IE and Firefox :?
Thanks for your kind words.
You can switch between different skins by clicking the "Options" button in the chat window. I am planning to add another JREF skin with bright background and dark text colours.
The ability to open private rooms might be implemented in the future.
Same here, in Dutch it says : "U're banned" :?
I have given it a try a coupla times - it's pretty good .... but like Frank, it's gonna take me a while to get used to 'handling the controls'! (I'm also a sloooow typer - which gives me one or two problems! And on both occasions - I was called away from my PC for other reasons. Blast!)
Interestingly though, and as an aside .... you really do feel that you've "entered a room" don't you! I feel that I ought to be looking around!
... or is that just me?

... haha dayoubu Thomas, Happy the chat is back, even it doesn't work 100%
cheers, and i guess the [img] trick doesn't work in this chat. gna gna gna
is that bad?
The other night we had 8 or 10 people in there at the same time. It is so great to get to really know other members by chatting. Now I know some of you go there to find it empty, but don't give up. The opening page of the Forum tells who is in chat, so keep an eye there to see when it's in use. If you have time, leave your PC on chat with the sound up and you will hear when someone checks in. I've had to give up watching TV re-runs nights to pay full attention to my fellow chatters. CHECK IT OUT, DON'T GIVE UP !
Frank
I tried to Log out, and IN at Jref, and then tried the chat, and get:
