There's this 18 year old guy named Doug who is going out with a 14 year old girl, Gianna. I'm pretty sure that is illegal in the state of NY. The problem is that Doug does not not Gianna is only 14 because they met over the Interent, and all her friends have been covering for her saying that she's older. I've tried getting in touch with him to tell him the truth but he thought I was lying. Here are some other facts, Gianna is a bipolar, compulsive liar so lying is almost like second nature to her. She also lied to him about the fact that her family was OK with them dating. They have been dating for over a month and he still has not been to her house because she knows her mom and older brother would not allow it. The question I propose is how I can stop this from continuing because Doug said that if he knew Gianna was only 14, he would not even be talking to her. My next step was going to be to get in contact with her brother but I'm afraid that he's going to believe his sister over some stranger. Help?
Of course, that is statutory rape in any state, but are you kin to Gianna? Or is it that you like Doug? Knowing all of the facts you think you know makes you an accomplice to the act for over a month. You've confronted Doug and he appears to have the same problems as Gianna. You dance around the solution, but you know what would happen if you went to the right people so that makes me think that you're looking for something else.
if he's too stupid to listen to others, he may have to find out own his own the hard way. yes it is illegal
an 18 year old is considered an adult..a 14 year old is a little girl..a minor. Yes it is statutory.
Wherever you're getting your facts about Gianna, make sure Doug hears those same facts. If he gets caught (and he will) and her family presses charges, he's going to jail. He won't like it.
Show him the question you just wrote to us.
If this guy was really serious about not going out with a 14 year old, he would be investigating the situation on his own. Someone needs to tell her parents. People with bipolar often struggle with cognitive distortion and need help keeping grounded. This is very wrong and selfish of Doug and frankly, he deserves whatever he gets! But I think that you are a better friend than he deserves and I hope that you can find a solution to this. if they havent met in person and had intercourse then its not statutory rape...
but if you have a yearbook with her pic in it or school pics then thats all the proof he needs that shes young...
tell him you wouldnt lie to him..tell him youre trying to keep him out of trouble..
if he dont listen then just let him find out the hard way...
not unless he sleeps with her.
thats the law.
until then, it's just weird.
First you said the "...Doug does not know Gianna is only 14..." then you said "...Doug said that if he knew Gianna was only 14, he would not even be talking to her." Did you already tell Doug that Gianna was 14? Then has Doug stopped seeing Gianna? I'm a little confused. If he's seeing her and having sexual relations with her, then yes, it is statutory rape, even if he is unaware of her age. Parents can press charges. He needs to get away from her. And if you need to tell her brother, tell him because even if he refuses to believe that his sister is seeing an older guy, at least you did your part. Good Luck!
