How should I help my mom get a job, if she just lost it?

Hey, my mom just got laid off of her job a few hours ago. She's so depressed and she just got back from a business trip from Germany. Shes been loyal to her company for more than 10 years. It's all because of the damn economy. But anyways, I need some advice. My mom is like a business working person. Maybe she could try something else, what job would be good for someone who needs a break? I just want to help my mom get back on her feet. My dad is a hardcore CFO and he makes alot of money, but I just want my mom to be happy and not depressed. Please help me!

Many people have their self image and self worth wrapped up in their jobs. If their job goes away due to layoffs they can be devistated. Also, the prospects for employment in this economy may not be good so her efforts to find another job may be futile.

Now the good news is that in your case your family sounds like this will not present a financial problem and that is good. After the shock wears off you could think about asking your mom if she would do a few things with you that her old job would have not allowed. Depending on your age and interests this would be a great time to look into doing some volunteer work together. It might be at a hospital, nursing home, school or church. Remember that volunteer work will look good on your resume in the future when you are looking for your first job. Employers like that because it shows you do more than the minimum that is expected.
