when i type in front page the lines of writting just seem to go on forever and I have to manually press the shift key in order to make a new line of text also, when I do get the line of new text, it is about 2 centimetres down from where it should be

Had this program a couple of weeks now and I can't say I am impressed.

    Thanks for any help.

  • i told you before, i don't use frontpage, i use dreamweaver, so sorry if i can't answer your question specifically.

ever tried looking in the help contents of frontpage? it most certainly is in there.

it is like asking how to type the letter a in a word document in a word forum and no one knows the answer.

if it's that simple, how come you can't do it yourself?

Alex, why use a horizontal rule? That makes no sense to me, it doesn't affect the line spacing of your text. I'm not sure why you'd bring that up.

All a horizontal rule does, brinton, is just that: adds a horizontal rule, a line on your page.

if you insert a line break, it will correct your problem, brinton.

it would help keep things organized. Its just my opionion....

  • insert a horizontal rule? how do i do that. will that stop the continual text or the gaps between lines of text?

    Thank you

  • its not "crappy" software. Once you learn how to do things in it, you will like it. Im 16, i have had front page for a year, and i pretty much know how to use everything. It takes time to learn, but just keep working at it, and im sure you will learn fast, Dont give up.

  • I am patient with fellow users, just not patient with Frontpage. I am begining to think that I should forget it and try something else. I did say that I was a beginer didn't I? It's ok for someone like you who has grown up with computers but I am 25 and have not as much experience. I am great with desisign issues - I studied Design at the Royal College Of Art in london and I bet I can match most people on paper. I would bet a million on it but this crappy software is bad

  • We where just trying to help. You can expect a answer in seconds, after all, i really dont think much people here use front page. So you have to have patience. And im sure when kirupa comes in to this forum, he will be more then happy to help.

  • How do I insert a line break? I went to insert, break and nothing happened. The problem is that each line of text is about 2 cm apart. Now this cannot be right. What happens when you type out text. Does this happen to you when you use frontpage? I mean, when I use microsoft word, it looks quite normal. why is this so different?

    Thanks for the replies

  • It's not in the help section. I just assumed that because I came to a frontpage 2002 forum that people here, like yourself, might have an answer but seeing as you don't use it I am wondering why you are here to offer advice (it is much appreciated all the same)

You then ask if I am so clever, why haven't I worked it out for myself, well, I have done just about everything I can think of to do so but have found no answers. That is why I came to the forum. I suppose my next step would be to contact microsoft for an answer (I must emphasize that I have only had a computer for six months and frontpage for two week - only started looking through it about 4 days ago so I cannot be expected to be an expert in this ammount of time)

The one thing that really annoys me about computer forums in general is the smug attitude of some of the more experienced users of this or that software (not you but particullarly on the macromedia site) They assume that they are more intelligent just because they have spent longer on an application. Does a knowledge of certain software make a person superior to someone who knows nothing of that software? As far as I can see, frontpage is a pile of **** and I will get rid of it as soon as i post this reply

  • I find it impossible to believe that no one knows the answer to such a simple question in a forum such as this. it is like asking how to type the letter a in a word document in a word forum and no one knows the answer. I thank again both people who have tried to help but god knows where to turn now. Even Dreamweaver looks friendly now. At least I can type text and it looks ok and that is the most difficult application for web designers I am told.

  • So I have to hand code? Oh dear, I thoght that frontpage would have a simple way to do this. I know very little about HTML. Time to uninstall?

  • Yeah brinton, don't give up on FrontPage. It may have a slight learning curve attached to it, but it is probably one of the easier editors for creating HTML pages. As with anything related to computers, it takes time and practice.

I remember the days when I ditched FrontPage 98 because I couldn't figure out the difference between their Editor and Explorer...{shudders}. Of course, I came back to it a few months later and found it to be almost better than sliced bread!

    Cheers!

  • you can insert a line break, i'm not sure what the command is in frontpage since i use dreamweaver, but you can insert the html < /br > (remove spaces) and it will have the same effect.

as for the lines of text going on forever, try using tables to organize your text/content. this will eliminate that problem.

Brinton, liam's help is pretty much to the point. To skip one line, simply press Shift + Enter. To cause a line break, press Enter and you will skip a line and start from a new line. Tables will help you to solve your problem, and I am not sure why your copy of FrontPage is continuing text beyond the actual page's width.

Also, all of us here volunteer our times to help. A little kindness goes a long way - especially when a good solution was already provided by liam...searching the FrontPage help =)

    Cheers!

  • Thanks Kirupa,
I will not give up. I feel a little lost with it all- Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Actionscript in flash mx (but I love Flash) I also love Free hand!!!!

I suppose You know how it is with all the learning curves of ALL of theses applications. I suppose that one day I will look back and laugh at my worries but untill that day, Thank you all for the time you take to reply to my naive questions

    Thanks again
