Today 1st page is not very friendly. When trying to start the program for editing our website I get an error message:
Cannot create file C:Program FilesEvrsoft1stpage2000history.ini
The first page stays up. My edit screen is there but behind this image. I can not close the program. I have to use the task manager to close. I tried shuting the computer down and restarting but that did not work. I have used this software once before since receiving a new computer with Windows XP. Everything worked well at that time. Do I need to reinstall the software? ROOKIE 8 ~YR OLD RULES AND REGULATIONS:: Page 1. I ran into this problem recently.
I had formatted my hard drive and reloaded my original saved files from cd.
For some reason the were loaded as read only and would not let me change the permissions.
I did not delv too deeply into a fix......I just created a copy of the entire folder, deleted the original and then renamed the copy to match the name that i had used for the original folder.
Problem fixed..........just a little "extra" work.....but simple.
Restoring files directly from a CD is a pain in the neck. Especially if they're not zipped.
Its best to zip them first, because any file coming directly off of a CD is automatically marked as 'Read-only'. Files decompressed from a Zip are writable. Yes......just reloaded from my back-up cd to check.
All files were saved as read only, although I had not changed the permissions when I saved them to CD originaly. It may be a quirk in my CD program.....I think I used ROXIO to save these files.
I have since switched to Padus Disk Juggler......
Anyway....after I loaded the files to my hard drive I went in and changed files from "read only" to "archive" and that works fine too.
Were the files really "read only" or was it a security descriptor problem on a NTXP system?
Runningattrib -R *.* /Sfrom a DOS boxCMD window in the root restore directory will fix everything up.
Try going into your 「C:/Program Files/Evrsoft/1st Page 2000/」 directory and deleting the existing 「history.ini」 file. If that doesn't work, check your folders to make sure that they don't have the 「Read-only」 attribute set.
Zero - neat trick with the "brackets" but they won't show up unless someone is using a unicode font as their basefont.
I have never had any problem except when I have way too many applications running minimized. I suspect a memory problem. I have 256 which is ample for most work I do. I hate the "catch all" reload the application without knowing what is wrong. If you have plenty of time, you could un-install FP, download again, and re-install.
Short of that, you may hear from Boris or one of the other experienced members here.
Don't get your knickers in a twist. It is a great application
