how do i write a justification report to my boss:: 3 posts - Last post: Jul 7, 2005how do i write a justification report to my boss. I would like to set out in a report form to Management that we need more http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-1919817.phpHOME | My office is converting to Office 2000 and is telling me I won t have the same Access capabilities. They suggest I move my databases (only a few) over to Excel. I don t know a lot about Access - in fact I have just started playing with it. But I do think it seems to be a better tool than Excel for holding tables with a lot of data, and provides the ability for us to pull various reports on this data. Can someone throw me a few key words or something that I can quickly digest and go to a meeting with? Maybe there s something that draws a quick comparison between Access and Excel?
Thanks, as always.
It sounds like we can get it, if we can justify why in a meeting with our IS group. (I just want to sound like I know what I m talking about.) Thanks a million, as usual. Sounds to me like they re just reiterating the *no-support* clause.
ORRRRR....
They re not going to install Access. First thing I d do is clarify that with them before you even make an argument. Tell them that MS no longer makes Office WITHOUT Access, and that before they know it, they ll be trying to communicate with people (clients?) who have it and won t be able to support it. Tell them you have all the Access support you need. You ve been to the Recommended page, Lori? A few other great Access boards there. www.thewordexpert.com/recommendeds.htm
They re going to be left in the dirt as far as Office technology goes. Tell them that Office XP uses Access databases as the default data source in new mail merges. If they don t keep up, they ll get lost in future versions. Tell them that MS is pushing Access on us as users, and that Visio will be the next product--in the humble opinion of TheWordExpert. LOL!

Right now, we re on Office 97. They don t even like us to use Access now. In fact, short of hiding it, they ve hidden it pretty well so that if you didn t know to look for it, you probably wouldn t find it. The only answer I ve ever gotten is that our IS group won t support Access, so if we create anything in it, and run into any trouble, we re on our own. So, the honest answer is, I don t know.
Question is, Lori. Why in the world would you not have the same Access capabilities?? did they tell you?
