I really don't think this should cost much to fix, just get an adapter cord, maybe?

You should be able to get a firewire to USB cable. That way you can plug the firewire end into your video camera and the USB end to your computer. I had the same problem. Went out and bought a brand new Gateway laptop, couldnt believe it a month later when i went to hook my camcorder up to my computer and found out there was no built in firewire jack.
Here is what you can do. Buy a card with firewire port on it. Here is a example:

Just make certain you get the right card. Some are called Cardbus, some are called Expesscard. I originally purchased the wrong one and it wouldnt fit my laptop so i had to take it back and exchange it.
buy a cable that will connect ebay have useful ones also theres drivers on the products websites download does if theres a problem
