I can't think of a way to somehow certify that the very large gifts
reported are, in fact, the largest in history. If anything comes to
mind, I will revisit this question. Or, perhaps another researcher
will come up with something.
Best of luck,

There have been some huge gifts to universities in Florida, including
a donation of $100 million to the University of Miami's medical school
-- reportedly the second largest donation to a university in Florida's
history.
I can provide details of what appear to be the largest such donations,
but I can't guarantee that they are the Top 3, since there's no way to
be certain what (if any) donations I might have missed, or what
donations were made quietly, without much coverage.
As for cultural institutions, I can offer the same, but it would help
to know just what you mean by "cultural institution". The largest
non-university donation I've come across thus far has been to a
Florida church. Does that count as a "cultural institution"?
Let me know what you think.
