question. Unlike well known named faiths such Catholicism, for
example, Fundamentalism, Evangelicalism and Pentecostalism are not
faiths or beliefs but religious disciplines. Let me explain:
A fundamentalist Christian is one who holds to what today is
considered somewhat extreme theological views. They often believe in
the literal interpretation and fundamental teachings of the Holy
Bible. Fundamentalists are a protestant group not always eager to be a
part of secular society. These people tend to hold the five
fundamental principles of Christianity as absolute truths:
Inerrancy of the Scriptures
The virgin birth and deity of Jesus Christ
The doctrine of substitutionary atonement
The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ
The bodily second coming of Jesus Christ
?A fundamentalist Christian is a Christian who holds the Bible to be
infallible, historically accurate, and decisive in all issues of
controversy that the Bible is believed to directly address; which was
the central issue for which the Christian Fundamentalist movement has

Evangelicals are primarily protestant Christians who view their
purpose as necessary to teach or spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
George W. Bush, Billy Graham, Habitat for Humanity and the group known
as Promise Keepers are a few notable persons/groups who view
themselves as Evangelical Christians. Often a charismatic group, they
readily participate in secular society and believe in these basic
principles:
An emphasis on the conversion experience. The conversion is also
called being 'saved' or the "new birth" or being "born again" after
John 3:3 (Evangelicals are sometimes referred to as "born-again
Christians" because of this emphasis.)
The use of the Bible as the primary source of God's revelation to man,
and therefore the ultimate religious authority.
Encourage evangelism, that is the act of sharing one's beliefs in the
gospel with others in order to convince them to convert, either in
organized missionary work or through personal evangelism.
A central focus on Christ's redeeming work on the cross, especially as
the means for salvation and the forgiveness of sins.

?Pentecostal? is a descriptive name chosen by a particular protestant
Christian denomination better known as ?The Assemblies of God?. The
?Pentecostal Church? takes its name from the Holy Bible?s record of
what occurred on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-4. This group may be
either ?Fundamentalist? or ?Evangelical? (or both) in nature and in
discipline depending on its leadership and congregation and they are
frequently charismatic. Many Pentecostals believe in charismata
(special gifts bestowed on certain people by the Holy Spirit) such as
glossolalia (speaking in tongues), miracle working, prophesying,
healings, the "casting out of devils" (exorcism), hand-clapping,
shouting and being "slain in the Spirit," which are all observed with
great zeal and fervency. Some notable Pentecostals are Pat Robertson,
Jimmy Swaggart and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

no one faith has a monopoly on this religious discipline. So, for
example, a Protestant cannot be Catholic (nor visa-versa), but both
can theoreticially be evangelical in their religious disciplines.
