You need to read the laws governing qualifications for various offices. You do not have to study law to become a senator. You can be a very smart politician come up from the ranks in your party and when you make it to the senate, you can hire lawyers to interpret the laws for you.

From a layman standpoint I would encourage you to do both. The reality is that if you attending law school you will receive a full year of constitutional law regardless. Be mind full however of the philosophies that your particular school adopts when teaching constitutional law. Some teach the "living" constitution which allows for very broad interpretation of the constitutions and abuses the intent. Even in the education system there is an agenda so be aware that regardless of what they teach noone has authorized lawyers to be philosopher-kings.
