If its nothing new, antique or valuable, sell and buy new or used. But if you're interested to see what millionheads thinks - go to www.millionheads.com and ask your question there to tap the collective wisdom of crowds. How much will it cost? That depends on how much you have. Phone one of your local moving companies and ask for an estimate. It doesn't cost anything to get an estimate and then you'll know exactly what the comparison would be. You'd probably be better off to sell it and start anew in Vancouver - there are lots of second hand stores with reasonably priced furniture - plus the regular stores, upscale stores and good old Ikea.
Having made that exact same move 5 years ago, I'd say sell your furniture and buy it when you get here. U-Haul and Budget vehicle rentals will cost more than your furniture is worth (probably $500 in gas alone), and Vancouver has lots of places where you can find good furniture for very low prices. Check out craiglist.org, and you can probably even find free furniture if you look hard enough. Finally, few things are more liberating than starting over in strange new city. 604.837.7776 : Latest Blog Posts:: I have listed a new property at 3626 W 37TH AV in Vancouver. . If so drive out with your stuff. Might cost you $1500 and gas but at least you dont have to rebuy all your stuff which does take money, time and hassle. We ditched mostly all our stuff moving from Newmarket to Vancouver years ago and it took awhile to get it all back again.
Drive time is about 56 hours point to point. Done it a few times....one ways not bad but the return gets very boring.
It costed my sister from Manitoba to Victoria 3000 to move all of her stuff across the provinces and that was 2 years ago. I would reccommend brining all of your clothing kitchen batroom stuff and of course your bed. A small U haul will do. You could move all of your stuff over but in the end it will not really be worth the cost, or damages Ottawa XPress - News - Shotgun:: Dec 9, 2005 And if you think I'm talking furniture when I just mentioned Well, maybe it's time to move onto bigger and better things.. . I guess it all depends on how attached you are to your furniture and if it is good quality furniture. The cost of moving from Ottawa to Vancouver is based on weight so if you have a dining room suite, living room furniture, bedroom furniture and additional things such as TV, stereo etc. etc. the weight can add up. I would estimate at least $4000.00 minimum. Richmond, just south of Vancouver has many furniture stores as does Vancouver and I imagine you could easily furnish a new suite for that amount with all new furniture. It wouldn't necessarily be the best quality but it would be new and yours for the price of transporting your present belongings.
I got a quote for 2000$ from Thunderbay to Vancouver with a moving truck... You'll probably have to pay 3000$.
Call a moving company and ask how much to move it. Then figure out how much it would cost to buy new furniture, less what you think you could sell your present furniture for. Then you can decide.
That amount of furniture will likely cost as much to move as to replace in Vancouver.
