Human Stem Cells for Skin Care

Published by: admin 2009-01-08

  • I have received an email pointing me to www.celltrix.org. This email and website claims a skin care product using human stem cells in a cream base for skin regeneration. There is a trial conducted by Dr Sergey Fluerar. Is there any truth to this claim and any published information anywhere?

  • Hi jiaogulan, In regard to your clarification; the following is an excerpt from an authoritative documentation that I was able to locate regarding whether human stem cells can be maintained and extant (although not necessarily in a cream-based mixture). ?Medicine, biotechnology and the understanding of human development took a huge leap forward this month, as did stock prices of the Geron Corporation. Geron has financed research at the University of Wisconsin and Johns Hopkins University that has just culminated in both teams announcing the identification, isolation and culturing of human embryonic stem and germ cells. The discovery has enormous implications for the treatment of diseased tissues, drug testing, genetic engineering, and the understanding of fetal development and birth defects. The teams took different approaches. The Wisconsin group, led by James Thomson, took cells from human embryos created by in vitro fertilization. Specifically, embryos were cultured to the blastocyst stage then cell masses were removed and grown separately. Using mouse feeder cells, the researchers were able to maintain embryonic stem cells without any specialization developing or cells dying.? Brooks/Cole: Universal Human Stem Cells Isolated and Cultured http://www.brookscole.com/biology_d/special_features/bioUpdates/bioUpdates1298.html#Universal The patent below is significant in the question on whether stems cells can be used for regeneration of the skin in the forms of creams, lotions, etc. This patent for ?Physiological tissue repair and functional organ regeneration by cultivation of regenerative stem cells in vivo and in situ? was filed by Rongxiang Xu. ?What is claimed is: 1.A composition for promoting cell growth, tissue repair and/or organ regeneration in vivo comprising: a fatty acid-containing oil at a concentration at least 10% by weight based on the total weight of the composition; and a sterol compound added to and dissolved in said oil at a concentration at least 1% by weight based on the total weight of the composition. (?) 50.The composition according to claim 1, wherein the composition is in a form selected from the group consisting of liquid, lotion, cream or ointment...? MEBO is the the trademark for The MEBO Group. ?The MEBO Group, pioneers in the research and application of adult stem cells, was founded by Professor Xu Rong-xiang in 1987. The research has provided the market with innovative technologies and products that fulfills the promise of regeneration and repair, human organs in vivo and in situ. MEBO, is the trademark of MEBO Group. Research on stem cell regeneration in vivo and in situ was conducted on the basis of Moist Exposed Burn Therapy (MEBT), an innovative burn therapy that has been and is currently in worldwide clinical use. With years of basic research, Professor Rongxiang Xu, the inventor of the therapy has identified that it was by skin regeneration and replication from stem cell culturing in situ that MEBT effectively treats burns. It was also confirmed that subsequent to burn injuries, the human body has an instinctive ability to trigger residual tissue in situ to regenerate stem cells, which are then adjusted to give rise to skin tissue. This significant discovery advances human stem cell research into the application of organ regeneration and replication by in vivo and in situ culture of stem cell.? (?) ?Headquartered in Beijing, the MEBO Group with its international head office in Los Angeles, is delivering valuable pharmaceutical and skin care products to its customers. The primary goals of MEBO group are to satisfy an increasing demand to improve the overall health and wellbeing of every individual.? • Hi jiaogulan, Thank you for your comments. After carrying out further research, I realize the information you are seeking is not readily available on the internet. Therefore, I have sent out some emails with these inquiries and if and when I receive responses, I will let you know. You may then want to the post another question directed to me since you cannot increase the price or tip once the answer is rated. I'll keep you informed of my progress. Best wishes, rainbow~

  • Hi jiaogulan, Apparently the claim that human stem cells assist in the regeneration of skin tissue, and other organs, is true. Below are excerpts from various reliable sources which provide information on this research. I recommend you read the articles in their entirety. ?Are there potential benefits that could inure from the use of stem cells? Yes, there are. When asked in an interview, ?What are the potential benefits of researching these cells,? bioethicist Alta Charo of the University of Wisconsin (who is a member of the National Bioethics Advisory Commission to the President), responded: They could help regrow heart muscle after a heart attack. They could regrow brain tissues that could be an answer to Alzheimer?s, Parkinson?s, and Lou Gehrig?s disease. They could be used as a therapy for burns or to regenerate skin and would help in developing new drugs (2001, 56[8]:101).? Apples for Health: Stem Cells Used To Generate Organ Tissue http://www.applesforhealth.com/OrganDonation/stemgenorgt5.html ================================================ ?Stem cells are cells that can develop into mature, specialised cells in order to generate and regenerate tissue and organs securing the functions of the human body. A stem cell can divide into identical copies, a process which in principle can go on indefinitely. The properties of stem cells depend on their developmental stage and the source from which they are isolated?? Biokemisk Forening: Human stem cell research under debate in Denmark http://www.biokemi.org/biozoom/2003_2/bz_0203g.htm ================================================ ?Human stem cells hold great promise in health care. Stem cells have the ability to divide without limit and give rise to many specialized cells. They are best described in the context of normal human development, which begins when a sperm fertilizes an egg and creates a single cell that has the potential to form an entire organism. This fertilized egg is totipotent, meaning that these cells give rise to all the cells in the body?? Personal MD: Stem Cells Hold Great Promise In Health Care http://www.personalmd.com/news/stemcells_090700.shtml ================================================ ?Recently Xu proved that after being burned, the human body instinctively uses any remaining tissue to regenerate stem cells, which then somehow adjust themselves to lead to new skin tissue. Human stem cells are those that can divide and are now used to regenerate skin and it is hoped that later these cells can be used to regenerate other human organs.? The press release focused on a series of research achievements accomplished by Professor Rongxiang Xu and his team. Using residual viable burn skin tissue, they fulfilled the promise of skin regeneration by stem cell culturing in vivo and in situ and successfully applied the technology in treating severe and extensive deep 2nd and 3rd degree burn victims.?
