It's only $247, but I am broke and can't pay it. I am supposed to go to court next week. What are my options?
If I don't go do they issue arrest warrants right away? How much time do I have? Will they just file a tax lien? I know I can pay it within the next month or two..

It would be best that you appear in court as scheduled. While an arrest warrant may not be issued, you can be charged with "failure to appear" which may add a fine to what you owe your city already. Even though the secretary may have withheld too little from your pay checks, the responsibility to pay what you owe falls on you. Chances are you will be given an opportunity to explain your situation and to suggest a time period in which you can pay your tax debt. Since your court date is next week, if time permits it would be best for you to make direct contact with your cities tax office and try to resolve the issue before court. If it's city tax, then no point in contacting the IRS - they aren't involved in any way. You could contact the city offices and see if you can set up a payment plan. But don't just not show up in court - that's about the worst thing you can do. If you DO show up, they aren't taking you off to jail.
talk with the IRS and see if you can work a deal with them or go to a bank and borrow although it will cost a little more,settle it before and no court costs.
