Will you/Are you teaching your kid(s) a second language?
I'm on a questioning spree, but I'm just curious :P I think a foreign language would benefit a child greatly. Not just because of the career opportunities, but because it stimulates the brain, and the child would be grateful for his/her parent(s) having done so in the future.
So, are you going to teach your kids a foreign language, or will you when you have kids? This includes hiring a nanny/teacher/private lessons, ect.

pick - Look at it this way: If your child(ren) know(s) a foreign language or more, he/she/they will be able to watch media, listen to music, read literature, and talk to other people that speak that language. As a teen myself, I find it real enchanting being able to speak with Swedish teens, and it makes me feel different, but in a good way.
no
Yes, I would like my children to take another language, my eldest is interested in Italian, and I hear that's pretty easy to learn, so we'll see how that goes.
I do hear that the younger children learn a different language the more fluent they become, so I think it would be beneficial.
My kids know Latin and ancient Greek. We will eventually move on to Egyptian hieroglyphs and possible Sanskrit.
our kids do know 2 languages
we brought them up with this in mind
we think it's very important
but just to clarify, our kids are bilingual but it's not a foreign language, as we live in Canada and we have 2 national languages - French and English
just a friendly point
cheerz
I'm not because I never really could learn one myself but my boys watch Dora and Diego on TV a lot and they have picked up many words from that plus they listen closely when other people are talking around them in a different language. The one they seem to be picking up on is the Spanish and here it is a requirement that they start taking a foreign language class in 5th grade so I figure they will go with Spanish then.
I have no choice, we are expatriates and so will need to teach our son our native language as well as a second language. I do think it is beneficial, but I wish that he would be able to speak his native tongue most of the time.
Yes, I would have my child at a very young age since it is easier to start learning another language maybe even two so I guess I would hire a couple of people to teach her/him French/Spanish
I will :) my fiance is german and i'm from texas. when we have children, we're planning on teaching them both german and english :)
I think it's a good idea... my husband knows spanish and it helps him greatly at work and when we want to hire workers to work on the house etc. At my husbands work, they actually pay billingual pay to people who can speak english plus another language. Also... people who are bilingual are more marketable and more in demand when it comes to a lot of type of jobs...so they might be selected before a candidate that doesn't know a second language. I think that's a huge deal.
There were a lot of times in my last job that I needed to know spanish...but I only know a few words so I was constantly looking for people to translate for me.
A friend of mine had a nanny that pretty much raised the kids. The kids actually had trouble learning english...they were so fluent in spanish. So I guess it's important to have balance. : )
I'm teaching my son japanese at the present moment. It is one of the most difficult languages and one of the most sought after in the job world. Besides I plan on going to japan sometime next year and I thought it would be good for him to learn the language.
At least if I bring him something back in japanese he would be able to understand what it says or at least some of it. If he keeps up in the language I'll take him on the next trip.
I think its an asset to be multi lingual. I'd love to learn more espanol as well as french, chinese, and who knows what other languages.
of course! its great benefit.thats so humble and nice of you to ask.i think if i meet a kid who could speak different laguage i could tell the kid is intelligent, and has great family.teaching your kid another foreign laguage will defenitley a great idea.
We were never taught languages as children, other than a few basic phrases from family (a few Dutch, Polish, and Swiss phrases).
I am a senior in high school and I am fluent in English, Latin, and both Ancient and Modern Greek (yes, they are different).
Yes. That's an asset. Most children in Europe speak 2,3 or more languages. It's easy to learn while you are a child, also you have more opportunities to find a job, know people. I Speak 3 languages and I wish I could learn more. Let say if you speak English, it would be a good idea to learn Spanish since it would be easy to speak portugues, Italain and French, since Spanish and Italian are almost the same, Portugues are very similar.
You know, it all depends on how it's done. As I remember it, my dad suddenly got a bee in his bonnet about me learning French when I was 4 or so, and it was pushed on me in a really heavy-handed way, so I started to loathe it. As a result, I think I learned less French than I would have through the normal public school curriculum.
I was really afraid that my daughter would start feeling the same way if she were sent to French immersion primary school like I was, but at her school they ease them in, and it seems to be going better.
Yes, definitely! I speak Spanish so my mom and I will teach them that and I want my dad to speak to my future children in Armenian (since I don't speak any more). Everyone in my family is bi-lingual, so its only nature that I carry on the tradition.
i am a teenager and learn Chines (Mandarin)
my mum said it will benefit me
apparantly it is good for your base language (english)
if you have a good teacher it is not to bad
i would enroll your child into a language
yes my oldest (4) knows swedish fluently (we wanted her to learn that because i am swedish) and she is also learning French, because it is the second largest spoken language in the world (after english)
and this will be the same for my other children.
i think that learning a language is great for kids!
hell no. why should we have to cater to ******* ilegals. they come her they should learn how to speak our language.
