Hiya,
For fans of non-American movies, it would be better to have the filename without extension used in many functions instead of the titles stored in the library. For fans of Asian cinema e.g., the library is really useless as titles like "Wo hu cang long" or "Xiao cai feng" (two of my favourite movies) are incomprehensible if you don't speak Chinese. The same problem exists for the movie-information dialog or video-overlay while playing.
I tried to work around this problem by modifing the skin, but as I couldn't manage to strip the extension from the filename (e.g. in Videoplayer.title) I wasn't successful in trying to find an adequate solution.
That's why I suggest an entry in advancedsettings.xml which could look like this: Reference Documentation:: File Format: PDF/Adobe AcrobatWe ask you, the user, to give feedback on how complex it. was to integrate Compass into your application, use it instead of this transaction factory . http://www.compass-project.org/docs/1.2.2/reference/pdf/compass-reference.pdfHOME |

which could replace all references to the library-titles with the filename minus extension.
At the same time, something like "libtitle" could be introduced to make the original name of the movie available via VideoPlayer.libtitle and listitem.libtitle. This of course should contain the original title of the movie stored in the database independently of the state of .
Don't know if this solution is applicable, just wanted to bring up the problem for discussion.

sorry to bump an old thread but I'm really eager to find a way to do this as above primarily for non english films but also so I can scrape whole library and at least have correct movie names even if decription is wrong for some.
anyone get a solution?
As I said in the original post, I already tried to do this and it works fine for listviews in filemode, where I can replace listitem.title with listitem.label (which returns the filename without extension). However, this does not work in library mode, where I can only use listitem.filename, but this looks awful as I can't get rid of the extension (or is there any way to remove information from a $INFO, the manual explains only how to add additional text).
With the videooverlay finally, it's impossible as there is no Videoplayer.filename (according to the manual at least) and Videoplayer.title returns the orginal movie name if the item has been scanned.
or perhaps the scraper for IMDB can look to see if there's a translated title available? I don't think this should neccessarily be a global feature, more of a case-by-case thing. I know what you mean though, sometimes I find myself saying "where the hell did my Hong Kong movies go?" :P
You can always rename them in the library. There may even be a function to do that from the context menu in titles? Otherwise you could use sqlite to do it.
These are options for you to consider. Most people prefer the (correct) titles from imdb et. al. so it's probably something for you to look into yourself.
Cheers,
Jonathan
Really liked the idea when I read it. This could then also be done localized, so that the scraper looks for French titles if the region is set to France and for German titles if the region is Germany. But I think this would require changes to the database. The filename on the other hand is already available in the database and ready to use.
My filenames also include other information like running time because all the running time information in IMDB is incorrect if you're watching the movies at 25 fps (as we do here in Europe). And as everybody should be able to rename a file according to his needs I think this would be an easier solution.

You can modify the skin to do it - just use ListItem.FileName (or whatever it is - check the manual) in place of ListItem.Label. A reasonable workaround for now I think.
