He now has abandoned me, so I am at a loss as what I should do.
I have reformatted my hard disk partition and reinstalled all the software. The error also occurred just after I had installed only the OS so I think it is not a software problem.
I use the computer mainly to surf the net, email, letter writing, photo editing (basic) and encoding & listening to music.
Also, is it necessary to upgrade to P4 or is a Celeron okay?

During Startup of you computer press F8
There is an option "Automatic System Restart"
Disable it
Then go to Windows.
If you get any BSOD afterwards,it might be a conflict with your peripheral devices.
Try to reinstall all your drivers
If it doesnt work out, report here
hey verify ur posting!!
actaully what he was saying was: when u log on to windows, right click on my comp, select properties>advanced>startup and recovery. just uncheck "automatically restart" That way u'll get the BSOD which can help you in identifying the cause for the system crashes.

Hi! some of the BSOD errors appearing at different times are -
- Fatal exception 0E at 0028:C02B190F in VXD IFSMGR(04) + 00013023
- Fatal exception 06 at 0028:C004BAEB in VXD VFAT(01) + 0000A28F
- Fatal exception 0E at 0028:C00912AA in VXD SymTDI(01) + 0000AB3A
After any of these BSOD errors appear, if I press any key, the following appears
- Fatal exception 0D at 16B7 : 016F75E5 (the no. after 16B7 keeps changing)
I hope this is of some use.
