My computer is reboots on its own sometimes and also gives fatal exceptiion error' now and then. There is no fixed instance as to when it happens. Also my display screen freezes sometimes with horizontal bands appearing on the screen. My hardware assembler changed the following components but still the problem persists:-

    1) Motherboard
    2) RAM
    3) Processor
    4) PSU - 350W

He now has abandoned me, so I am at a loss as what I should do.
I have reformatted my hard disk partition and reinstalled all the software. The error also occurred just after I had installed only the OS so I think it is not a software problem.

I use the computer mainly to surf the net, email, letter writing, photo editing (basic) and encoding & listening to music.

Also, is it necessary to upgrade to P4 or is a Celeron okay?

My hardware details are as follows (Everest Home Edition Report)

Operating System Microsoft Windows 98 SE
    CPU Type Intel Celeron D, 2400 MHz (18 x 133)
Motherboard Name Intel Sea Breeze D845GVSR (3 PCI, 2 DIMM, Audio, Video)

  • During Startup of you computer press F8
There is an option "Automatic System Restart"
    Disable it
    Then go to Windows.
If you get any BSOD afterwards,it might be a conflict with your peripheral devices.
Try to reinstall all your drivers
If it doesnt work out, report here

    hey verify ur posting!!
actaully what he was saying was: when u log on to windows, right click on my comp, select properties>advanced>startup and recovery. just uncheck "automatically restart" That way u'll get the BSOD which can help you in identifying the cause for the system crashes.

No even by pressing F8 you can disable Automatic System Restart
I know the Windows Version of it
Even i had the same problem and my system kept restarting even before i could do anything in Windows, thats why i recommended him this
    Thanks for your concern

Hi! some of the BSOD errors appearing at different times are -

    - Fatal exception 0E at 0028:C02B190F in VXD IFSMGR(04) + 00013023
    - Fatal exception 06 at 0028:C004BAEB in VXD VFAT(01) + 0000A28F
    - Fatal exception 0E at 0028:C00912AA in VXD SymTDI(01) + 0000AB3A

After any of these BSOD errors appear, if I press any key, the following appears

    - Fatal exception 0D at 16B7 : 016F75E5 (the no. after 16B7 keeps changing)

I hope this is of some use.
