My daughter is 3 and has a lot of problems. Her father has never been involved and she has a lot of problems. When she gets mad, she will bite herself so hard that she'll have marks for almost a whole day, she bangs her head on the wall, smacks herself in the face and a lot more. And a couple days ago, we went outside for a walk and she ran into the middle of the street saying that she's mean and wants to get hit by a car. Anyways I took her to the hospital this morning because I had a referral for her to see a doctor and the doctor ( the resident ) and the doctor took us to the emergency room where we met with a crisis team and they wanted her to be hospitalized because she self mutilates ( bites, smacks herself, hits herself , wants to hurt herself ) and because she wants to die. They let us leave because they wanted to try and find someone who can help my daughter because she is extremely shy, where she will just curl up in a ball and not move , and they are suposed to give me a call within the next half hour, and they may want her hospitalized. I'm just scared. What would they do if she was to be hospitalized.
Additional Details
The hospital just called me, and they want me to bring my daughter down after supper tonight, and they have a room for her and they are scared for her and I am scared for my daughter and I just want her to feel good
SIB's or self injurious behaviors are sensory based. Has she been screened by an OT or pediatric neurologist for sensory integration disorder? A 3 year old does not understand the permanence of saying she wants to die. She certainly doesn't feel well and that in itself can be overwhelming when your sensory system just isn't organized. Because of her suicidal ideation they want her to be inpatient. A psychiatrist will evaluate her and she will be in great hands. She will be on a children's unit and be observed closely by nursing and auxillary staff the entire stay. There are alot of safety precautions taken in patient. I have worked at psych hospitals as a psych nurse for more than 20 years, and I have 3 sons, 2 have autistic features PDD.NOS and all have sensory issues. They will not keep her that long and its a safe place for her to be until they can get her balanced. It is scary but will be ok. You can bring her favorite blanket, book, stuffed animal ect. You will be able to visit her everyday, she will have a social worker, nurse, psychiatrist, family sessions, observations, evaluations, ect. The psychiatrist may want to prescribe a medication for her. A psychiatrist may feel that she has autistic features. The intake assessment is usually completed by a psych nurse who will ask you questions. They will probably have you come back to the unit to see her room and get her settled. 3 year olds do come into the hospital, not very often but it does happen. I would be informing the hospital staff of her SIB's and her sensory issues. Please feel free to email me with any questions.
I don't have any experience with this and it sounds scary. I can only offer encouragement that at least she seems to be getting help for this. Hopefully the doctors have dealt with this before and can help you get your daughter well again. Just let her know that you love her, that she is not a bad girl, and that everyone needs help some times and the doctors are there to help her to be happy.

I have five children and most of my five children have bitten their selves, even banged their heads while throwing a tantrum however they never wanted to hurt theirselves. I wish you the best of luck with your daughter, she could have some mental handicap, or she could have been exposed to someone who has filled her head with lots of nonsense as I don't kow if you keep her in your care all the time. I hope they figure it out and that she leads a happy normal life!
They will examine her physically to look for signs of abuse, and they will also look for any underlying medical problems. Then they will have a trained child psychologist get to know her and talk to her.The best thing you can do is pray.Love your child and make sure she gets the care she needs.GOD-bless
I don't have any advice for you, except hang in there. My heart ached for you when I read this, as a mother of three I felt pain for you and wanted to cry myself. You are a very strong woman and just have faith. I wish your family well and I hope you have some close friends for a shoulder to cry on. good luck

Your daughter might be autistic. Let the doctors hospitalize her and treat her. They will help you find out what is wrong with her and can help you with the best choice for her. If they hospitalize her they might take blood samples and maybe have a social worker or psychiatrist talk to her.
well it sounds like self mutilation. but it can start REALLY early, i was 9 the first time i cut myself. it's been 5 years and i still do, i'd say get her help now, or it's going to increase to substance and alcohol abuse (most likely)
Children that young do not act like that out of their own accord. Either she has seen someone acting that way or has been treated badly. Our children act how they are taught to act. Something is not right here. Flag me if you want, but this is my opinion.

they would observe her to see just what she does and intervene to stop the biting
it could be neurological and they would do an MRI to look for tumors and lesions.
they might have a child psychiatrist talk to her to find out what has her so wildly agitated
She could be autistic, but my son is completely normal and would get mad easily and bite himself. He just needs LOTS of patience and constant encouragement and love.
My brother is 2 and he hits himself and bangs his head on the wall 2. He was just recently diagnosed with Autism so u might want to think about that.
All I can offer is my support for you to get your child the help she needs. If you dont like what they drs say ask another for advice.
good luck

My daughter was diagnosed with depression and anxiety when she was 7. The only reason it took that long was because I was waiting to see what happened when she started school. I can remember thinking she had a problem when she was two. She would not talk, let me hug her, and she tended to go off by herself if there were a lot of family around. When she started school she just sat at her desk with her hands folded...never spoke, never picked up a pencil. All I can say is that finding out was a good thing. She takes an anti depressant and an ADD medicine and is really doing fine. She is above grade level in school, but still doesn't talk much. She goes to counseling once a week and sees a psychiatrist once a month, plus gets a counselor at school once a month. I know it is scary, but when your little girl get the right help, and you see the smile that you know she is supposed to have, it is the best thing in the world. Good Luck.
Kids act the way they do because they've seen someone act like that (usually seen it quite a few times). Her father not being in her life is not the cause of this. I have a 3 year old whose father wants nothing to do with him and he acts fine. I do notice that when he gets angry, he acts a little like me. But he doesn't self-mutilate.
Let the doctors help with what they can. Everyone else's advice sounds good too. Best of luck with everything. Make sure to be patient and supportive with her and make sure to have your own good support system for you.
